Electric and autonomous vehicles, even flying, endowed with innovative solutions: Piemonte, North-West Italy, is the place where the new mobility is developed and experimented
Electric, connected, autonomous and flying. The car of the future is already a reality in Piemonte. The region is the cradle of the national automotive industry and is playing today a major role contributing to the future evolution of mobility.
Cars without drivers are already circulating in Torino, the capital of the region and among the first cities in Europe to allow the experimentation of autonomous driving on their own roads with the Torino CityLab project. The FIAT Research Center, as part of the European L3Pilot project, is extensively testing L3 autonomous vehicles, which will be the first ones to be introduced on the market.
The automotive sector in Piemonte - traditionally a leading sector of the regional economic system - is facing the challenges of future mobility in a dynamic and innovative way, thanks to the synergy with the IT and telecommunications sectors and the collaboration between major international players, SMEs and startups, research centers and universities in the area, which is encouraged by the support guaranteed by Institutions.
The liveliness and level of experimentation of the automotive community in Piemonte are unique in the world of mobility: the German company FEV is testing its autonomous car prototype here, while in the ICT Innovation Hub the company Bylogix has developed, with the funding of the Regional Government, the VeGa electric car which is equipped with a vision system that uses artificial intelligence to interpret the environment surrounding the vehicle and to take the right decisions, constantly learning from experience.
A new conception of mobility is imagined and developed in Piemonte. Pop.Up Next is a concept of modular, electric and autonomous vehicle for the transport of people which is able to move on the road and even fly, developed by Italdesign, iconic Piemonte brand that is now part of the Volkswagen Group. Modularity is also the main feature of the new FIAT Centoventi concept car, presented by FCA at the latest Geneva Motor Show: totally electric, reconfigurable and customizable, it represents a new approach not only to mobility, but also to design and production. The latter is a fundamental aspect also shared by the project of the Chinese startup X Electrical Vehicle (XEV) which will produce in Piemonte its LSEV electric microcar, the first mass-produced one using 3D printing techniques.
This unique concentration of know-how in the automotive sector makes Piemonte the ideal destination for where to locate cutting-edge companies and to host VTM - Vehicle and Transportation Technology Innovation Meetings scheduled in Torino on the 1st and 2nd April 2020, the second edition of the business convention that brings together the global automotive community - car manufacturers and related industries, subcontractors, decision makers - that will inspire a packed b2b agenda, conferences and technical workshops on the future of the mobility sector.
