Ecosmic lands in Piemonte to develop its software solutions for the space sector: Torino at the centre of sustainable space activities.

Ecosmic is a startup born in 2023 in The Netherlands, developing software solutions for the space sector. Its System to Avoid Fatal Events (SAFE) supports operators that want to protect their space assets against the threat of collisions with satellites or debris, thus contributing to the long-term sustainability of space activities, ensuring that the most used and valuable orbits remain accessible to humankind.

The project in Piemonte

In June 2023, at the Paris Air Show, the company met Piemonte’s delegation and expressed its desire to move its headquarters to Torino, which is more and more emerging as a focal point for space endeavours and international startups, bolstered by a supportive institutional and R&D ecosystem. Its strategic location, well-connected infrastructure and proximity to Milan, another vital business hub, were further good reasons for designating it as the ideal setting for an international operational base.

Piemonte Agency's support

Piemonte Agency played a crucial role in Ecosmic's relocation to Italy, providing tailored assistance to the company in all phases of its successful establishment in Torino in January 2024. Navigating the administrative and bureaucratic procedures was made significantly smoother with the support in connecting with key professionals for a seamless transition, such as accountants and tax advisors. Facilitating networking opportunities was another significant aspect of the assistance: thanks to organization of meetings and events Ecosmic established valuable connections within the local business community for future potential collaborations and partnerships. Finding suitable office spaces and qualified personnel is also the result of the joint work between Piemonte Agency and its network of connections with institutions and universities. Finally, Piemonte Agency provided valuable information and guidance on the various financial support options available in the region, helping Ecosmic grow by leveraging potential funding opportunities.

In 2024, Ecosmic plans to scale up. Thanks to private and public funds, as well as key commercial partnerships, Ecosmic is on the right path to achieve exciting milestones: growing the Italian team up to 15 people, launching the first version of SAFE on the market, testing and validating SAFE onboard of a satellite.
