PIEMONTE, LAND OF TASTE, TAKES CENTER STAGE IN NEW YORK: CELEBRATING ITALIAN CUISINE’S UNESCO BID AND THE SUMMER FANCY FOOD SHOW
Following the success of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, Piemonte is back in New York to showcase the excellence of its cuisine and strengthen its presence in the United States with a program of cooking shows, tastings, and business opportunities. This marks the region’s tenth participation in the Summer Fancy Food Show—the largest trade event in the U.S. for the food and beverage industry
Following the success of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants—hosted for the first time in Italy, in Torino—Piemonte returns to the international stage to showcase its culinary excellence. From June 28 to 30, the region takes center stage in New York, participating in the Italian government’s mission, led by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, Francesco Lollobrigida, to promote Italian cuisine’s nomination as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The agenda includes a gala dinner with international buyers on June 28, organized by ICE Italian Trade & Investment Agency at Gotham Hall on Broadway. That same evening, Times Square will screen the official video supporting the UNESCO nomination, celebrating the uniqueness of Italian culinary heritage.
Starting June 29, the spotlight shifts to the Summer Fancy Food Show, North America's premier B2B event for specialty foods and innovation. Piemonte returns for the tenth time, with a delegation of 16 companies coordinated by Piemonte Agency as part of the “Agrifood” Integrated Supply Chain Project, promoted by Regione Piemonte (Regional government) and funded by PR FESR 2021–2027. This year marks a milestone, with Italy serving as Country Partner—an honor awarded for a record fourth time.
Leading the delegation are Regione Piemonte President Alberto Cirio, Piemonte Agency Chairman Dario Peirone, and General Manger Stefano Nigro. Their mission goes beyond food promotion: it also positions Piemonte as an investment hub and high-end tourist destination, a pairing highly valued by the U.S. market, which continues to show strong interest in Piemonte’s food and wine tourism and premium agri-food products.
“As we arrive in New York, Piemonte is still riding the wave of the extraordinary success of the 50 Best event in Torino, which placed our city, cuisine, and agri-food excellence at the center of global attention,” said Regione Piemonte President Alberto Cirio. “We are proud ambassadors of Italy’s UNESCO bid, and we’re here to promote our products and expand our presence in the U.S.—a strategic and growing market, even amid current geopolitical uncertainty.”
“This year, 22 Piemonte companies are participating in both the summer and winter editions of Fancy Food in New York and Las Vegas, two of the most important global trade events for the food and beverage industry,” said Dario Peirone, Chairman of Piemonte Agency. “Fancy Food offers a strategic gateway to connect with North American buyers—the top non-EU export destination for our region. Food and wine are key drivers of Piemonte’s economy, and Piemonte Agency supports over 200 companies in this sector each year in their internationalization journey, enhancing their global competitiveness. A solid institutional presence in markets like North America continues to generate tangible commercial and investment returns.”
The food & beverage sector is a strategic pillar of the regional economy. In 2024, exports reached €8.6 billion, making it the third-largest export category for Piemonte—up 4.7% compared to 2023. The region ranks fourth among Italian regions for the value of food industry exports. Over the past five years, the sector has grown by 1.5 times in value and has doubled over the last decade. Piemonte has also seen strong performance in the U.S. market, thanks to the prestige of its local productions and the renowned quality of Made in Italy flavors. According to the latest Istat data, in 2024 Piemonte’s agri-food exports to the United States reached €700 million, an increase of over 2% from 2023.
The Summer Fancy Food Show draws thousands of producers, buyers, intermediaries, distributors, and industry professionals for three days of product discovery, networking, and business opportunities. At the Javits Center in New York, Piemonte companies offer a wide selection of regional specialties: from pasta to chocolate, soft drinks to sweet and savory baked goods, coffee, candies, cheeses, rice, preserves, and sauces—all proudly Made in Piemonte. These culinary treasures will take center stage during live cooking shows and tastings at the Piemonte stand (Level 3 – Booth No. 2520) within the Italian Pavilion, a longstanding symbol of excellence and a key showcase for promoting Italian food abroad. Throughout the show, the Piemonte exhibition area will feature cooking shows of traditional recipes—vitello tonnato, tajarin with cheese fondue, hazelnut risotto, panna cotta with torrone, and more—alongside tastings offering visitors a chance to explore the region’s unique flavors. Two internationally renowned chefs from Torino, Silvia Baldini (award-winning chef, entrepreneur, and best-selling author) and Oscar Turchi (curator of all dishes), will guide guests through this sensory journey.
To conclude the three-day event, on July 1, the region will shine as a luxury travel destination with “Piemonte: A Signature Destination for the Art of Living.” The evening, hosted at Eataly Downtown and organized by Visit Piemonte in collaboration with ENIT and Journey Global (a luxury travel trade agency), will present Piemonte’s fine dining and high-end hospitality to around 70 American journalists and tourism professionals. Among the representatives is Stefano Mosca, Director of the International Alba White Truffle Fair, presenting its 95th edition.
The Fancy Food Shows—both the Winter edition, where Piemonte debuted in January 2025 in Las Vegas, and the Summer edition in New York—are among the most prestigious global trade events for the food and beverage industry. The Summer Fancy Food Show is the largest specialty food trade event in the United States, featuring thousands of new food and beverage products and welcoming only qualified buyers and industry professionals. The 2024 edition hosted 9,300 buyers and over 2,400 exhibitors from 56 countries worldwide.
The strong ties between Piemonte and the United States are also reflected in the presence of major multinationals such as Coca-Cola, Mondelez, and Cargill, all with established manufacturing operations in the region. Mondelez operates in chocolate, biscuits, gum, confectionery, and powdered drinks, with subsidiaries including Mondelez Italia Biscuits Production (Capriata d'Orba, AL) and Fattorie Osella (Caramagna Piemonte, CN). Cargill, with a plant in Cherasco (CN), is active in grain and oilseed trading, food ingredients, feed, cocoa, meat, and derivatives. Coca-Cola supports over 3,000 jobs in Piemonte, both directly and through its supply chain. In 2019, the company further strengthened its presence by acquiring the historic Lurisia facility in Roccaforte Mondovì (CN), known for its premium mineral waters and traditional Italian soft drinks, including Chinotto, Gazzosa, Aranciata, Limonata, and more.
