Changan’s establishment and growth in Piemonte.

One of China’s leading automotive groups headquartered in Chongqing, Changan Automobile stands as a global benchmark in the automotive industry. With a long-standing tradition of innovation and development, the company has expanded globally through numerous research and development centers, including the Changan Automobile Design Center Europe S.r.l., established in Piemonte in 2003. This center serves as the hub of Changan’s design activities in Europe and will count around 320 employees by the end of 2024, with a turnover of approximately €48 million.

The project in Piemonte 

Piemonte, recognized as one of the world’s capitals of automotive design, offers an outstanding industrial and creative ecosystem. The region’s solid manufacturing base, extensive network of specialized suppliers, and top-tier educational institutions have made it a global reference point for the automotive sector. This dynamic and innovative environment provided Changan Automobile with the ideal conditions to expand its operations in Europe.
The company began its activities in 2003 with a design office in Moncalieri (TO), growing to a team of about 50 employees by 2010. In 2011, CHANGAN solidified its presence in the region by constructing its own facility in Rivoli (TO), which became operational in 2012 following an investment of approximately €14.5 million.
The steady growth of projects led the company to further strengthen its European Design Center. Between 2012 and 2020, the team expanded to 160 employees. In 2022, Changan launched a significant expansion of the Rivoli headquarters, enlarging the office and lab spaces as well as the area dedicated to building design models. Completed at the end of 2024 with an additional investment of about €14.8 million, this expansion has boosted the facility’s capacity, enabling it to accommodate up to 500 employees.
With this strategic investment, Changan reinforces its presence in Europe while confirming Piemonte’s appeal as a leading hub for automotive design excellence.
