Syensqo
Piemonte as a strategic hub for Syensqo’s innovation in advanced chemistry and sustainable technologies.
Syensqo is a Belgian multinational specializing in the development of advanced materials and innovative chemical solutions. In Italy, the company employs over 1,150 people, generates a revenue of approximately €1.3 billion, and maintains a leading production and research presence. Its Italian headquarters is located in Bollate (MI), which also hosts one of the Group’s most important global Research Centers, while its industrial presence includes two production sites: Ospiate di Bollate (MI) and Spinetta Marengo (AL). The latter represents one of Syensqo’s main facilities worldwide and is recognized for excellence in advanced chemistry and innovative material development, making a concrete contribution to the industrial, employment, and technological growth of Piemonte.
The project in Piemonte
The choice of Piemonte as the location for one of its most important industrial hubs is based on a unique combination of long-standing manufacturing tradition, logistical excellence, technical expertise and strategic positioning. Syensqo produces materials essential for some of the most strategic sectors of the European and global economy, including automotive, batteries, aerospace, advanced electronics, healthcare, construction, and oil&gas. The materials produced at Spinetta Marengo, in particular, are critical for the development of key future technologies and for addressing the challenges of the energy transition, electrification, digitalization, and the hydrogen economy.
Alongside industrial development, Syensqo has allocated significant investments at the Spinetta Marengo site for environmental protection and maintenance, totaling nearly €50 million over the past four years. The site also features one of the most advanced hydraulic barriers in Europe, equipped with a groundwater treatment system using the best available technologies.
Another central pillar of Syensqo’s investments in Piemonte is collaboration with the academic and educational sectors, considered essential for advancing technological know-how and scientific innovation. In this context, the Research and Development Center for Environmental Remediation and Protection (RisPA) was established—a joint lab created in partnership with the University of Eastern Piemonte, founded in 2024 and inaugurated in November 2025 at DISIT in Alessandria. The five-year agreement provides for a total investment of €5 million by Syensqo, €3 million of which has already been allocated, to develop innovative processes for purifying and removing pollutants from soil, groundwater and industrial wastewater, as well as to create and enhance advanced research laboratories.
Syensqo’s commitment to educating future generations also extends to secondary schools, as demonstrated by its collaboration with the “Alessandro Volta” Technical Industrial Institute in Alessandria. The company supported the “Hydrocult” project, developed by three young students, which was selected to represent Italy at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2025 in the United States, one of the largest global innovation fairs.
“Investing in Piemonte means, on one hand, valuing technical skills and an industrial excellence heritage that is unique in Europe; on the other, it means making a tangible contribution to managing the environmental challenges of the territory in which we operate, through significant investments dedicated to air, water, and soil protection,” says Francesco Luccisano, Syensqo Italy Director.
Syensqo thus confirms itself as a strategic industrial, scientific, and environmental actor for Piemonte, Italy, and Europe, capable of generating lasting value through skilled employment, innovation, sustainability and investment in the competencies of the future.
