The pharmaceutical giant Tofflon invests in Piemonte to produce industrial freeze dryers in JV with the Italian Itema.

Founded in Shanghai in 1993, Tofflon is a leading supplier of basic equipment, integrated systems and engineering for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The group, as part of its internationalisation and expansion strategy, chose to open its first office in Europe by investing in Piemonte’s promising ecosystem and working with Itema’s industrial expertise, a company specialised in providing advanced solutions for the textile industry.

The project in Piemonte

The joint venture, established in October 2023 with headquarters in San Pietro Mosezzo, in the province of Novara, is called Tofflon Itema Srl. and is dedicated to the Made in Italy production of industrial freeze-dryers. With an initial investment of around €8 million and the expectation of recruiting 40 employees in the future, the new plant manufactures freeze-drying systems and filling line systems to produce antibiotics, vaccines, diagnostic drugs, protein-containing and biotechnological products to be marketed mainly in European Union countries, Canada and the United States of America.

Decisive in the choice of Piemonte as investment location were the high levels of quality and innovation that the Novara production plant can guarantee combined with the enormous logistical advantages that the area offers, in particular the proximity to ports to receive components or ship the systems manufactured within optimal delivery times.
