“PIEMONTE FILM NETWORK 2026” AT THE 79TH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL
Piemonte takes the spotlight at the 79th Cannes Film Festival with institutions, producers and regional projects featured in the Official Selection, a dedicated stand at the Marché du Film, and two major networking and promotional events showcasing the strength of the region’s audiovisual industry on the international stage.
- Two “Piemonte Film Network” events will take place during the Festival: the first at the Italian Pavilion, organized by Film Commission Torino Piemonte, and the second organized by Piemonte Agency on behalf of and with the support of Regione Piemonte (Regional Government) - both also supported by Compagnia di San Paolo - to present the funding opportunities, services and creative excellence that Piemonte offers to the international audiovisual industry.
- Piemonte returns to the Marché du Film, the leading marketplace for the global film and audiovisual sector held alongside the Cannes Film Festival, with a stand financed by Regione Piemonte promoting the region’s film and digital creativity ecosystem.
- “L’Age d’or”, the opening film of Cannes Classics, co-produced by Torino-based Graffiti Film and shot in Piemonte last spring, marks another major achievement for the region and joins the strong delegation of Piemonte-based producers and industry professionals attending Cannes, confirming the solidity of the regional audiovisual ecosystem and its ability to attract high-profile international productions.
- Projects supported by Film Commission Torino Piemonte also include the short film “Torino Shadow”, directed by Jia Zhang-Ke and co-produced by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, selected for Cannes Classics, alongside “Ting”, a dark fantasy feature directed by Maximilien Dejoie and selected for the Fantastic 7 showcase at the Cannes Film Festival.
“Piemonte Film Network”: showcasing the opportunities in Piemonte through panels and networking events
On Friday, May 15, Film Commission Torino Piemonte and Piemonte Agency hosted two events dedicated to promoting Piemonte’s production ecosystem. The Italian Pavilion, hosted by Cinecittà at the Hotel Majestic, provided the setting for a presentation of the region’s funding schemes, production services, and industry opportunities, including €8 million currently allocated to the development and production of films and TV series.
Right afterwards, at the Palais des Festivals, an international networking event brought together more than one hundred producers and decision-makers, who met with the delegation of Piemonte companies participating in the Marché du Film. Organized by Piemonte Agency on behalf of and with the support of Regione Piemonte and also backed by Compagnia di San Paolo, the initiative is designed to turn connections established during the Marché du Film into concrete international opportunities, highlighting the creativity, expertise and audiovisual innovation that define Piemonte’s industry.
Piemonte’s exhibition space at the Marché du Film
Piemonte’s participation in the Marché du Film is part of the internationalization strategy supported by Regione Piemonte to promote the regional film industry, with a particular focus on audiovisual production, and on enhancing the excellence of the local cinema and audiovisual supply chain.
Within this framework, the Piemonte exhibition space - coordinated by Piemonte Agency on behalf of Regione Piemonte inside the Palais des Festivals - will serve throughout the Marché du Film as a hub for promoting the region’s film and digital creativity ecosystem, as well as a meeting point for participating Piemonte-based companies - representing a broad spectrum of the audiovisual industry, ranging from independent production and post-production to dubbing, audio post-production, music, animation, and live-action filmmaking - with producers, co-producers, distributors, sales agents, broadcasters, streaming platforms, buyers and international investors.
Piemonte in the Official Selection and at the Marché du Film
Shot between Piemonte and France with the support of the Piemonte Film Tv Fund and Film Commission Torino Piemonte, “L’Age d’or” by Bérenger Thouin - co-produced by Torino-based Graffiti Film, led by Enrica Capra - was selected as the opening film of Cannes Classics and premiered worldwide on May 14 at the Agnès Varda Theatre.
The same section also selected the short film “Torino Shadow”, directed by Jia Zhang-Ke and co-produced by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema and the Jia Zhang-Ke Art Centre, represented internationally by MK2. Produced with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte, the film will have its world premiere in the Cannes Classics Special Screenings section on May 19.
Also featured in the Official Competition, among the films competing for the Palme d’Or, is the French feature “La vie d’une femme”, directed by Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet, which filmed several scenes in Torino last autumn with the support of Film Commission Torino Piemonte.
The Marché du Film will also spotlight the upcoming feature “Ting”, a dark fantasy directed by Maximilien Dejoie and shot in Piedmont earlier this year with the support of the Piemonte Film Tv Fund and Film Commission Torino Piemonte. The project is the only Italian title selected for the Cannes Film Festival’s Fantastic 7 showcase.
Further highlighting the vitality and international reach of Piemonte’s audiovisual sector is the presence at Cannes of Imago VFX, which handled the full post-production process — including visual effects and color grading — for “Les roches rouges” by French director Bruno Dumont, as well as Redibis Film, co-producer of “Roma elettrica”, directed by Bertrand Mandico and presented in the Séances de Minuit section.
