AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGIES FROM PIEMONTE-ITALY AT THE PARIS AIR SHOW 2023

Torino, June 19th, 2023 – The aerospace system from Piemonte, North-Western Italian region, consolidates its presence at the Paris Air Show to reaffirm its leading role in this fervent phase of the sector and in the development of new projects. From 19th to 25th June at Le Bourget 17 top Piemonte SMEs exhibit the regional aerospace excellence in the large 200 sqm booth (Hall1/F229) organised by Piemonte Agency within the frame of the Integrated Supply Chain Project “Aerospace” supported by Regione Piemonte (Regional Government) and co-financed by the 2000-2020 Development and Cohesion Plan - and of the “Industrial Goods” Project financed by the Regione Piemonte and the Torino Chamber of Commerce.

Piemonte is home to some major key players in the aerospace industry - Leonardo, GE Avio Aero, Thales Alenia Space, ALTEC, Collins Aerospace - and to a core of over 350 SMEs (source: Piedmont Aerospace District): altogether they provide to main international players a complete supply chain characterized by know-how, technical skills and high-level manufacturing. Aerospace in Piemonte, in fact, records a total turnover of € 7 billion and employs over 22,000 people, holding 20% ​​of Italian exports in the sector.

At the Paris-Le Bourget Air Show, Piemonte delegation presents a complete supply chain that responds to any needs of the Aeronautics, Space and Defense industries. In an exhibition path set up inside the booth the 17 SMEs offer their latest generation products and technologies to international clients, in particular: mechanical components, solutions for the transport of fluids, scientific instruments, solutions for optimizing the supply chain, assembly lines of integrated structures, engineering services, surface treatments, thermal insulation, wiring, design, engineering and simulation, ICT solutions, electrical and electronic systems, aircraft assembly and maintenance systems.

On June 20th, Piemonte’s stand is hosting the workshop "Unleashing the Sky's Potential: Aerospace Excellence, Innovative Trends, and Investment Opportunities in Piemonte". Main speakers: The Regional Minister for Internationalization Fabrizio Ricca, the Regional Minister for Economic Development Andrea Tronzano, the Secretary General of the Torino Chamber of Commerce Guido Bolatto, the Chairman of Piemonte Agency Dario Peirone, the President of the Piedmont Aerospace Cluster Fulvia Quagliotti and the representatives of the international key players located in Piemonte: Leonardo, GE Avio Aero, Thales Alenia Space, Collins Aerospace. They will be animating a round table combining the presentation of local skills with the business and investment opportunities. High-level manufacturing, engineering, prototyping, propulsion, robotics and automation, latest generation unmanned systems, up to additive manufacturing and to the new frontiers of the lunar economy: Piemonte offers industrial excellence in the aerospace sector and a complete ecosystem made up of a consolidated network of SMEs, important large companies, a growing flow of technological startups with public and private research centres, Innovation Clusters and a strong academic presence that is highly attractive for both buyers and foreign investors.

The presence at the Paris Air Show, the largest global aerospace event where the international community of the sector gathers to expand collaborations with new industrial partners, also allows to involve professionals in the next Aerospace & Defense Meetings, the only aerospace business convention organized in Italy whose ninth edition returns to Torino from 28th to 30th November. The Paris Air Show, which has been bringing together operators from all over the world since 1909, is in fact an unmissable opportunity to invite international players to Aerospace & Defense Meetings and present the latest innovations and technologies made in Piemonte. The past edition registered over 2,450 participants from 49 countries, 150 start-ups from 21 countries, more than 316,000 visitors, of which 140,000 professionals from 185 countries, 304 official delegations from 98 countries, 2,700 journalists and orders for 140 billion dollars. For Piemonte companies, the Air Show is an unmissable appointment in the promotion roadmap on foreign markets, in continuity with the other 2022 and 2023 events - namely Aeromart Toulouse, Aircraft Interior Expo, Farnborough International Air Show, IAC-International Astronautical Congress - which will lead them to the new edition of Aerospace & Defense Meetings in Torino next November.

France is among the top three aerospace commercial partners in Europe for Piemonte, representing a primary market for its SMEs, also considering the geographical proximity and significant economic relations. Among the active collaborations in the Defense field, the Rafale, A400M, NH-90, and Tiger stand out; in the civil sector worth the A320, A321, 500/600 and A320NEO, A330, A350, Dassault Falcon 2000 and 6x Business Jets and the Regional Aircraft of ATR are but the main ones; in the Space sector, the Ariane 5 and 6 rocket, the ESA ExoMars and Mars Sample Return programs, not to forget programs in new commercial sectors such as Stratospheric Platforms (e.g. Stratobus) and In-orbit Servicing (e.g. EROSS ); finally, in the UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) segment, the Eurodrone and on-board systems and equipment (electronics, missile systems and propulsion by Safran and Snecma). Furthermore, as part of the "Aerospace" Integrated Supply Chain Project, Piemonte Agency engages long-standing collaborations with the main local clusters: Aerospace Valley, AsTech, NAE-Normandie Aerospace Cluster, Aerospace Cluster Rhône-Alpes Auvergne and SAFE clusters part of EACP-European Aerospace Cluster Partnership, of which it is a member.

“Aerospace is a strategic sector in Piemonte, as demonstrated by the figures of the sector which boasts over 300 companies, 20,000 employees, a turnover of 7 billion €, of which around 70% is destined to foreign markets – explains Alberto Cirio, the President of Regione Piemonte - We have large companies and SMEs that collaborate according to a supply chain logic that will get further impulse with the creation of the City of Aerospace, whose foundation stone will be set in autumn. Here companies, start-ups, universities and research centers will work together to increasingly combine manufacturing and innovation, research and production in a sector in which Piemonte plays a leading role on a global level".

In recent years, the Regional Government has enhanced the companies of our territory in all possible ways since one of our missions, especially as Department of Internationalization, is to help the local industry enter new markets in foreign Countries - affirms Fabrizio Ricca, Regione Piemonte’s Minister for Internationalization -. Events like this one can be an opportunity to introduce Piemonte’s aerospace and defense expertise to international partners and to show a territory which, thanks to an economic asset made up of prestigious universities, specialized research centres, SMEs and large companies, is one of the best ecosystems in Italy in which to invest and collaborate”.
